With the 12th overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders select Henry Ruggs, wide receiver out of Alabama
The Las Vegas Raiders have sent their first official pick in after relocating earlier this year. With the selection of Henry Ruggs the Raiders look to continue to build around a young roster that has flashed potential.
Under the leadership of head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock, Las Vegas has seen a near overhaul of its roster with the prominent exception of quarterback Derek Carr. Now that Ruggs has joined the roster, the push to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. With Ruggs as Carr’s newest weapon, the pursuit to put more points on the board, as Mayock has repeated over the offseason, is a full go. The team ranked 19th in passing touchdowns and had to act accordingly at the top of the draft.
Ruggs is the first of two first-round selections for Las Vegas. Vegas will be on the clock once more at pick 19. Having spent the 12th overall pick on a wide receiver it will be interesting to see if the Raiders choose to focus on the defensive side of the ball.
The Raiders help three first-round picks in the 2019 draft, spending the fourth overall pick on Clelin Ferrell, a defensive end who hasn’t exactly lived up to expectations just yet. All eyes will be on Ruggs now as not only the first pick for the Raiders in the 2020 NFL Draft, but the newly dubbed Las Vegas as well.
