The Green Bay Packers plan for the future of their franchise with the selection of quarterback Jordan Love after a trade up

The Green Bay Packers largely surprised in the first year under Head Coach Matt LaFleur by going an impressive 13-3 on the year and reaching the Conference Championship. Surprisingly, despite having an offensive-minded head coach and Aaron Rodgers, the Packers leaned heavily on their defense throughout the year. However they plan for the future with the selection of quarterback Jordan Love instead.

Green Bay did lose Bryan Bulaga and Jimmy Graham in free agency, but they hope that the free-agent signings of their own, Devin Funchess and Ricky Wagner, help to offset those losses. It helps that Green Bay has a solid track record in building through the draft. In just the past four drafts, they were able to add key contributors such as Kenny Clark, Kevin King, Montravious Adams, Jaire Alexander, Oren Burks, Darnell Savage, and Elgton Jenkins.

While I am sure Rodgers would have loved (no pun intended) for the Packers to get him a few more weapons, they had other ideas. Love’s skid stops here as he lands in Green Bay with the 26th pick in the draft.

As you can see, most of their successful picks were on the defensive side of the ball. Now that they have one of the better defenses in the NFL, however, the Packers will hope to continue that success on the offensive side. Aaron Rodgers has to retire at some point, and just as they did with Brett Favre, the Packers select Love as they prepare for the future.
