Despite finding success with undrafted free agents Raheem Mostert and Matt Breida, Kyle Shanahan places value on the running back position and it would not be a shock to see the Niners use a pick on the position.

Per Justin Melo of The Draft Wire, The 49ers have met with Evans, who proved himself to be a threat as a runner and a pass-catcher out of backfield during his college career.

Evans racked 1,480 yards and scored 18 touchdowns on the ground in 2019, while also adding 198 yards and five touchdowns as a receiver.

He is an ideal fit for the Shanahan offense as a one-cut runner with 4.4 speed who has succeeded in an outside zone scheme.

With just one running back coming off the board in round one, Evans may face a long wait if the league shows the lack of value it places on the position by letting other elite runners slide.

Evans could be available on day three, when the Niners are scheduled to rejoin the action, and would be an ideal replacement for Tevin Coleman, who is regarded as a potential trade candidate as the Niners look to free up cap space for the George Kittle extension that is likely to happen this offseason.

Running back isn’t a need for the 49ers but, as the Kinlaw pick demonstrated, they have demonstrated a willingness to build on strengths and they may well be tempted to do just that with Evans.
