What more could the Chiefs need when they have Patrick Mahomes running the show? They give him a runner in Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the draft
At this point we are all probably wondering how much better the Kansas City Chiefs can get. The Chiefs continue to build one what looks like the NFL’s next dynasty by adding Clyde Edwards-Helaire to an already impressive roster.
As long as Patrick Mahomes is at the helm with Andy Reid calling the shots, the Chiefs will be competing for AFC titles and Super Bowls for a long time. The Chiefs are in a bit of cap trouble as well as their going to have to work some magic to continue to field a team around Mahomes’ next contract.
His next contract will undoubtedly see him become the highest paid player to ever play the sport and it shouldn’t even be close. The idea is to field a team around what is going to be a very large contract and there is no better way to do that than getting creative through the draft.
The Chiefs will be clearly have more room for error than most teams though since they have Mahomes playing quarterback but it doesn’t mean they should be risky. The Chiefs strategy in the draft should be to take more guys who are ready to play day one instead of drafting for projects as they will be in a win now mode for the foreseeable future.
Having the best player in football along with one of the best play callers in football will always give you a chance to win championships. Drafting Edwards-Helaire sure doesn’t hurt either as Kansas City continues to build on an already championship ready team. Winning the Super Bowl last year won’t be their last one and we can all pretty much guarantee that. The Chiefs want more than one championship, they want to be the new team of the decade and what better time to start than having one your first title in 2020.
