Winner: Jacksonville Jaguars

Yes, the Jacksonville Jaguars won something. Jacksonville came away successful on two fronts. Firstly, they were able to add two elite defensive players. Secondly, they still have Yannick Ngakoue as a trade piece for day two capital, or 2021 draft capital. The Jaguars, “rebuild” could not be off to better start. While it may have been nice to get a first round pick for him, the Jaguars now have flexibility.

The Jaguars took Florida cornerback C.J. Henderson with the ninth pick on Thursday night. Henderson immediately becomes the best corner on the roster and will be a catalyst for this defense as a sticky man to man cover cornerback. With the 20th pick, Jacksonville took LSU edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson. Josh Allen and Chaisson is certainly a terrifying pass duo for years to come. Jaguars deciding to focus on the pass rush and secondary sounds very familiar.

From the Yannick Ngakoue perspective, Jacksonville has much more flexibility. If Jacksonville wants more capital tonight and tomorrow, they can get some by dangling Ngakoue as bait. A much more interesting angle, however, is using him to acquire premium capital in 2021. The Jaguars already have an extra first round pick next year from the Jalen Ramsey trade. Jacksonville will likely give Gardner Minshew 2020 as a trial year, with eyes towards the 2021 quarterback class, specifically Clemson superstar Trevor Lawrence.
