Loser: Aaron Rodgers

After everything the Green Bay Packers have put Aaron Rodgers through, they just couldn’t stop. 2019 was the first glimmer of hope that the defense has given Rodgers since they won Super Bowl 45. Rodgers has had to be superman for the last decade, trying to overcome terrible defenses. In 2019, the Packers showed life on defense. Signing Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith last off-season gave the defense a stellar pass rush.

For the first time in many years, the Packers had a pedestrian offense with Aaron Rodgers. With his longtime receivers Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb gone, combined with Jimmy Graham’s downfall, the Packers pass catching group was unspectacular in 2019. Davante Adams was the lone reliable receiver on the roster in 2019. Additionally, none of the Packers pass catchers had any type of next level speed.

The Packers favored body type at receiver is big and tall, with the ability to catch back shoulder passes. There is nothing wrong with that, because Aaron Rodgers’ best trait is stellar back shoulder passes. However, in 2020, the NFL is a yards after catch league, and having a player to make plays for themselves is so crucial. Penn State receiver K.J. Hamler, who is lightning fast, was still on the board.

Knowing all of this, the Green Bay Packers decided to draft Utah State quarterback Jordan Love at pick 26, after trading up with the Miami Dolphins. The Packers decided to look for Aaron Rodgers’ replacement instead of getting a player to help him win now. This team went 13-3 last season, with an NFC Championship appearance in their back pocket. In a few years, we will look back on this decision as another situation where the Green Bay Packers have failed their Hall of Fame quarterback.
