5 best team/prospect fits of 2020 NFL Draft; Chiefs, 49ers lead the way
Clyde Edwards-Helaire – Kansas City Chiefs
When you’re coming off a Super Bowl win you can afford to make luxury picks, and that’s exactly what Clyde Edwards-Helaire was for the Chiefs at 32nd overall.
He may not have been a necessity, but the former LSU running back adds another dangerous element to a Chiefs offense that was already the scariest unit in the league.
Edwards-Helaire’s combination of thump and remarkable elusiveness for a back of his 207-pound frame should see him slot in comfortably and replace LeSean McCoy while providing an excellent complement to Damien Williams.
However, it is his potential impact in the passing game that makes him such an exciting selection for the Chiefs.
In addition to his 1,414 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground in 2019, Edwards-Helaire caught 55 balls for 453 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers.
His ability to make an impact as a pass-catcher gives the Chiefs another weapon underneath who can thrive with the likes of Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson testing defenses deep.
When Andy Reid invests significantly in a running back, they typically thrive. McCoy and Brian Westbrook are testament to that and, in landing with Reid and the Chiefs, Edwards-Helaire is entering a scenario set up for him to succeed.
