2021 NFL Draft QB watchlist: Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields top stout pack
By Cory Kinnan
The headliners
There should be little surprise about the top two names on this list, as Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields are both eligible for the 2021 NFL Draft, and with another strong season should remain atop this list.
Lawrence is atop this list, as he has the chance to be the top quarterback prospect the country has seen since Andrew Luck entered the 2012 NFL Draft. He has been the most pure quarterback since he started as a true freshman, and now entering his junior year, Lawrence looks to be the runaway QB1 in the upcoming draft.
After transferring from the University of Georgia to Ohio State last year, Fields became a Heisman finalist for the Buckeyes after throwing just one interception in the regular season. While he has some accuracy issues to work through, he has the arm talent and the desired mobility from a future franchise quarterback.
Like his Bison friend before, Trey Lance looks to be the second North Dakota State quarterback to become a first round pick in the last five years, joining Carson Wentz. Lance turned the ball over just one time last year and won the FCS equivalent to the Heisman. Despite being only a redshirt sophomore, Lance is the real deal.
Matt Campbell has been building quite a program at Iowa State, and has earned a couple handsome paydays as a reward. The fruition of his hard work can be found in quarterback Brock Purdy who looks established as a top-five quarterback in the 2021 draft.
