3 reasons Taulia Tagovailoa to Maryland Football was the right move

Path to the top of the depth chart is clear
The main reason Taulia Tagovailoa lost the Crimson Tide was not due to his brother leaving. Taulia would have known before committing to Alabama that his brother would only be there for one more year. The big reason why Taulia hit the transfer portal and landed with the Maryland football program was due to his standing on the depth chart.
Even after his brother went down with a season ending hip injury, Taulia became the backup quarterback behind Mac Jones. Jones is in Tuscaloosa for at least this season, and unless he has a massive year as a one-year starter, he’ll probably be back for another as well.
Behind Jones then, the Crimson Tide landed five star quarterback Bryce Young this past recruiting cycle, and Nick Saban would more than likely seek to get him on the field as soon as possible without burning through three years of his eligibility. Even after Jones moves on from Tuscaloosa and towards his path in the NFL, Tagovailoa would not be the favorite to start.
Jackson and Pigrome may have seniority and familiarity with the Terrapins, but Taovailoa has familiarity with Locksley. Besides, it’s not like either of the quarterbacks already on the roster did much to solidify themselves atop the depth chart.
