Is Josh Rosen on the move again?

For the second consecutive off-season, Josh Rosen faces uncertainty about his NFL future. Reports have emerged that multiple teams have called the Miami Dolphins to ask about Rosen. At 23 years old, there is still interest in Rosen despite his ineptitude as a quarterback since entering the NFL in 2018. After the Dolphins drafted Tua Tagovailoa in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft, Rosen may be looking for his third team in as many years.

In the 2018 NFL draft, the Arizona Cardinals moved a third round pick and a fifth round pick to trade up into the top ten to take Rosen. The former UCLA product had a disastrous rookie season. Rosen completed just 55% of his passes to go along with eleven touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He also fumbled the ball ten times in just 13 games. His poor play helped the Cardinals secure the number one overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft where they selected Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray.

After Arizona drafted Murray, they shipped Rosen to Miami for a late second round pick. After seeing his limited time with the Dolphins, it looks like the Cardinals should be arrested for robbery. He could not beat out veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick in training camp for the job. When he did get his opportunity to start, he was pulled after three games. In his short time with Miami, Rosen threw five interceptions. A busted coverage by the Los Angeles Chargers allowed him to toss his only touchdown for the Dolphins.

While the Dolphins are in no rush to move on from the former UCLA product, they are certainly listening to the calls they’ve been receiving. With rosters expanding to 55 players this season, the Dolphins are more likely to keep three quarterbacks. Rosen still has two years of team control left where the team is paying him nearly nothing.
