OL Michael Deiter

It’s hard to believe that after just one season, offensive lineman Michael Deiter is entering a make or break year. However, with the amount of offensive lineman added by the Dolphins this off-season, Deiter could see himself on a different team in 2021. Deiter was below average as a rookie starter and has already found himself without a starting job going into 2020.

More from Miami Dolphins

In this off-season, the Dolphins added Ereck Flowers, Ted Karras and Solomon Kindley to the interior of the offensive line. Jesse Davis, a versatile guard/ tackle combo player, is still under contract. It must also be noted that while the Dolphins will be trying rookie Robert Hunt at tackle, he played guard in college.

Deiter did not show the Dolphins much as a rookie during the 2019 season. He struggled in pass protection and was one of the lowest graded offensive guards in the NFL. With the new additions to the trenches, Deiter’s best way to finish out his rookie contract in Miami is as a rotational piece on the interior.

While Deiter does not profile as a starter, he has an opportunity to play if there is an injury, specifically to Ted Karras. There is currently no viable backup center on the roster and if there is an injury to Karras then Deiter would likely start. Him playing well could lead to him reclaiming a starting spot. However, another down year could lead to him being out in Miami.
