Learning a new blocking scheme

Stefanski is well known for his use of the wide-zone scheme during his time as the offensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings. He now brings that system to Cleveland, and has the ideal personnel to run it already on his roster.

With running back Nick Chubb coming off a 1,000 yard rushing season, wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry already on the roster, and with the addition of Austin Hooper to pair with David Njoku at tight end, the Browns are ready to roll in the wide-zone scheme. Right tackle Jack Conklin is well known for his athletic ability to get wide and to the boundary as well, making the Browns’ offense look tasty on paper.

However, Jedrick Wills did not run a wide zone oriented offense at Alabama, although he did show the occasional ability to get to the edge and up to the second level with ease. At the Combine Wills proved that he has more athletic ability than most give him credit for, and he looked like a seasoned veteran in the on-field drills.

However, understanding the lingo and philosophy of the wide-zone scheme is going to be the next task for Wills to tackle. He is a bright young man, so expect him to be ready to roll when the first week of the season rolls around.
