Chase Young will face challenges with the Redskins despite his status

From early on in the 2019 college football season, it was painfully obvious that Ohio State pass rusher Chase Young was on another level. Young’s 2019 body of work was simply unbelievable. In only twelve games, Young had 16.5 sacks and 21 tackles for loss. He also forced a whopping seven fumbles. As a result, he was drafted by the Washington Redskins with the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

In 2019, Chase Young won the BIG-10 Defensive Player of the Year, the Bronko Nagurski Award, the Chuck Bednarik Award, the Ted Hendricks Award and was a consensus All-American. Young was also a finalist for the 2019 Heisman Trophy, but ultimately lost to LSU quarterback Joe Burrow. The Ohio State standout had one of the most unbelievable seasons in college football history, even with missing two games.

Once the season ended with a painful loss to the Clemson Tigers, it was time for Young to prepare for a new life in the NFL. From the moment the regular season ended, the first two picks in the 2020 NFL Draft were set in stone. The Cincinnati Bengals were going to take Burrow with the first pick and Chase Young was headed home to the DMV area to play for the Washington Redskins.

Even though Young is an absolutely dominant player, every rookie has challenges that they face in year one. His rookie season will not be a cake walk by any stretch of the imagination. In an off-season so drastically different because of the Coronavirus, Young has already had to adjust to his new situation differently than any other rookie class in NFL history.
