Add Joe Burrow and the Bengals to Colin Cowherd’s list

Fox Sports Radio host Colin Cowherd has never been one to shy away from controversy or making harsh statements towards athletes. This time his newest statement has been aimed at the Cincinnati Bengals and their first overall pick Joe Burrow.

After nearly a decade with former second round pick Andy Dalton under-center, the Bengals have decided to move on and found their way into the top spot in the 2020 NFL Draft. After the historic season he had for the LSU Tigers in 2019 on his way to winning a National Championship and a Heisman, Cincinnati had no choice but to make Burrow their selection.

This, however, does not give Cowherd any signs of optimism for the city of Cincinnati or for Burrow’s start with the Bengals. When discussing the number one overall pick and his standing in the NFL, Cowherd had this to say:

"“Folks, he’s got an average arm and struggled badly as a junior at LSU – still surrounded by all that talent. He’s a good prospect going into a brutal situation in a defensively loaded division, and he’s going to struggle mightily.” (via Cincinnati.com)"

Is Burrow going to struggle? Every rookie does. Is Cincinnati in the midst of a hefty rebuild? More than likely yes. However, to bury a player before he has yet to even take a snap as Cowherd is attempting to do may be a bit much considering training camp has yet to begin.

After one of the most eye-popping seasons in all of college football a year ago, Burrow still has to silence new doubters at the NFL level. Starting with Cowherd, look for the new face of the franchise in Cincinnati to get right to work.
