Nebraska wide receiver J.D. Spielman has entered the transfer portal
The college football landscape has begun to drastically shift as the invention of the transfer portal has taken shape. While it is a bit late in the process, another name has found its way into the portal as now former Nebraska wide receiver J.D. Spielman is now on the move.
The 5-9, 180 pound speedster was set to enter his last year of eligibility with the Cornhuskers as Scott Frost is entering his third year manning the program. Through the first three years of his collegiate career, Spielman has been on the brink of 1,000 yards each and every year.
Last year, Spielman racked up 898 yards receiving on 49 catches, he found himself on the receiving end of five touchdown passes. His junior campaign in 2019 came on the heels of freshman and sophomore seasons where he tallied 830 and 818 yards receiving respectively.
A fairly high profile 2021 NFL Draft prospect in a deep wide receiver class, Spielman’s landing spot will be intriguing as it pertains to his stock. A system that will manufacture touches for him underneath, while also giving him the occasional shot down the field will maximize his potential for his new team.
A kid from Minnesota, the Golden Gophers have been pegged as a logical landing spot for him, which would give him the opportunity to return home while staying in the Big Ten. The power to the players continues, and rightfully so, as Spielman is on the move for his final year of eligibility.
