Get to know Jarrid Williams, the newest member of the Miami Football program

Manny Diaz is the king of the transfer portal and he strikes again with Jarrid Williams announcing his transfer to the University of Miami football program. Williams was only a two-star recruit coming out of high school and his only scholarship offer came from the University of Houston.

After starting 19 games for the Cougars he was a hot commodity for many teams once his name entered the portal. According to Pro Football Focus, Williams allowed two sacks and 13 quarterback hurries in 2018. Not bad considering he had 544 pass-blocking snaps that season.

It should be noted that transferring to the ACC will come with more talented players to line up against than what he sees at Houston but he has the tools to be very successful at this level. After all, the Hurricanes surrendered 51 sacks upfront in 2019; that was ranked as the worst among all power-five schools.

With two true freshmen in the starting lineup in 2019 we should expect Williams to compete for the starting right tackle position. Earlier this year quarterback D’Eriq King also made the move from Houston to Miami and playing together as teammates once again on a more talented roster will pay dividends for Williams. Playing in a very similar spread offense as he did in Houston, Williams can shine at right tackle in 2020.

Standing at 6’7 and 305 pounds, Jarrid Williams is nimble and athletic with very good technique. The upside for him is through the roof and if he plays well against the top-notch talent in the ACC we should expect his draft stock to rise tremendously.
