Examining Panthers new future in Carolina
More holes to fill
Without knowing how cornerbacks will be drafted come April, I really like Florida State cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. as a guy they could target round two. He’s a fantastic athlete with fluid hips and will bring a much-needed coverage ability. Also, South Carolina cornerback Israel Mukuamu is 6’3 with great length and can be physical in press.
Two other positions that would make sense for the Panthers to target is tight end and linebacker. After losing Greg Olsen, Panthers starting tight end is Ian Thomas, who has shown some ability but isn’t a dominant caliber tight end in the NFL. One of my favorite players in the draft is Miami tight end Brevin Jordan. Jordan is an athletic freak who will create consistent mismatches against linebackers and safeties.
At linebacker, Missouri’s Nick Bolton is an exceptional talent. Bolton has some great traits; he is a nasty hitter and can cover in zone and man. After losing Panther great Luke Kuechly, they will need young talent in the middle of that defense.
2021 Draft will be an important one for the Panthers. Plenty of holes to fill and with a brand new coaching staff, it should be exciting to see how Matt Rhule and the front office in Carolina attack this rebuild.
