Auburn Football surprisingly land grad transfer quarterback Grant Loy

The Bowling Green State University Falcons have produced a couple of impressive grad transfer quarterbacks, as first James Morgan went to Florida International; he then became a fourth round pick of the New York Jets. Now, grad transfer quarterback Grant Loy is heading to the SEC to play for Auburn Football.

A surprising decision for the former Falcons’ signal caller, as the Tigers already have the SEC Freshman of the Year Bo Nix on their roster. At 6-5 and 223 pounds, Loy is the prototype build for an NFL gunslinger, but now be faced with a position change as he heads to the state of Alabama.

In his first year as the starting quarterback at Bowling Green, Loy struggled against MAC conference competition. Throwing for 1,137 yards on 203 attempts, Loy managed to complete just 56.7 percent of his passes. He threw for just six touchdowns and 11 interceptions for the Falcons a year ago.

Loy does, however, bring a great deal of versatility under-center as he displays the athletic ability to improvise outside of the pocket. In addition to his passing numbers, Loy rushed for almost 500 yards and four scores for Bowling Green.

Given his frame and mobility, however, Loy could make an astute tight end as well for the Tigers if both parties see fit. Unseating the freshman phenom in Nix will not prove to be an easy task for Loy.

Why did Loy choose the Auburn football program, and who were his other suitors? Entering his last year of eligibility, Loy has an uphill battle to start for the Tigers after being the man on campus in Northwest Ohio as Nix looks to be the solidified starter.
