2021 NFL Draft: Trey Lance can make it a three-horse race for No. 1 pick
Summary
There will be predictable concerns over the level of competition Lance has faced in his career, but his 2019 tape not only stands up to that of Lawrence and Fields, it is arguably superior.
Lance takes care of the football as a passer and plays the quarterback position with a composure that belies his inexperience. His skill set is one that translates excellently to the modern-day NFL, in which the ability to make plays on the move has never been more valuable.
His arm strength is a tick below that of Lawrence but the disparity is not so much to prevent Lance from having a chance to challenge for the top pick that has long been presumptively allocated to the Clemson star.
Indeed, if he can become more consistent in his ball placement, particularly on what should be high-percentage throws, and avoid any further issues holding on to the ball as a runner, then there will be little to stop Lance putting himself firmly in the conversation to be the number one pick next year.
What started as a one-horse race could soon become a three-way battle should Lance head for the NFL on the back of another spectacular season for the Bison.
