A.J. Dillon to the Green Bay Packers

While the 2020 NFL Draft haul of the Green Bay Packers was overall a massive head scratcher, seemingly putting together the worst draft of any team, the selection of Boston College running back A.J. Dillon may have been the most surprising. At the end of the second round, the Packers took Dillon, although Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are both young and productive.

Either the Packers have no plans to bring back either Williams or Jones after the 2020 season, or they have some magical three-way attack the NFL has never seen before. Regardless, even if they part ways with Jones and/or Williams, there may have been other, more versatile backs to choose from.

While Dillon is a freak athlete, showing off as such at the NFL Scouting Combine, he does not possess great agility and is more of a straight line runner. Additionally, he does not present a vast ability to catch the ball out of the backfield as a receiver either. So who is he replacing? Jones, Williams, both, or neither?

Across the board on this one, it will be interesting to see how the Packers plan to use Dillon into the future. However with a ton of mileage already on his body, and not a ton of versatility to his game, a second round pick was far too rich for the former Boston College running back.
