What does Burrow bring in 2020?

While he’s the least athletic of the four top guys, Burrow is the most pro-ready of the bunch. What sets him apart from most rookies is the mental part of the game. Burrow is essentially a seasoned veteran mentally. That’s what made playing in a pro style offense so easy for him in 2019.

He isn’t Matthew Stafford coming out of college in terms of natural arm talent, but he didn’t win a Heisman on mental acumen alone. Burrow, while he doesn’t have a rocket arm, can make almost every throw. He’s got great touch on deep throws, evident on his throws on slot fades down the sideline.

Burrow’s mental prowess, combined with his touch and accuracy should allow him to have a nice rookie season. He has weapons with the Bengals, which is not normally the case for a team coming off of a 2-14 season. When healthy, A.J. Green is still one of the best receivers in the NFL. Joe Mixon and Tyler Boyd are two really talented playmakers and better quarterback play should help them immensely.

Burrow should absolutely be the favorite to win offensive rookie of the year. He will be the only quarterback starting week one as a rookie and has enough around him to put up numbers worthy of winning the award. He won’t light the world on fire in 2020, but he will leave Bengals fans encouraged about the future.
