2021 NFL Draft: A deeper look at two electrifying WR duos
WR Dazz Newsome
Lining up in the slot for the Tar Heels is Dazz Newsome. Smaller than his counterpart Dyami at 5-foot-10 190 pounds, but Dazz can win in multiple ways. Dazz also had a huge 2019 season. He caught 72 passes for 1,018 yards and ten touchdowns. He was a second-team All-ACC selection and put himself right up there with wide receivers in this class.
Dazz has some great traits he showed in 2019. From the slot, Dazz has great feet and runs smooth routes against a lot of off-man coverage. He has sharp breaks at the top of his routes from the slot. He has developed an advanced route tree from the slot. He pairs this all with decent long speed.I enjoyed his stop and start ability. Can get vertical on outside releases from the slot and tracks the ball well.
Newsome like Brown, needs to work on his hands. They’re a bit unnatural, and he uses his body a bit too much. Doesn’t do well in contested catch situations. Also, I would like to see him work from the slot a bit more.
Slot receivers are becoming increased roles in every offense in the NFL. Dazz will find a job at the next level and make an impact. He will be a consistent separator and reliable option for quarterbacks.
