2021 NFL Draft: The Patrick Jones II hype train is gaining steam
Patrick Jones II scouting report
As a redshirt senior Patrick Jones II has shown experience as a pass rusher. At 6-foot-4 260 pounds looks the part as an NFL player. He has some good athleticism to go with his frame. He excels at exploding off the snap and accelerates well to make plays in the backfield.
Jones has good hand technique and gets inside consistently with good strength. He uses some developed pass rush moves. He wins with speed-to-power, outside rushes with rip move, inside counter with a strong club-to-swim move, and a long arm stab on the edge.
Jones has some areas to improve before the 2021 draft. He tends to pop up at the snap at times and needs to stay lower. He shows the ability to make plays in the run game but needs to set the edge better. He doesn’t have the best bend but still does well to turn after going vertical off the snap.
His projection is natural to NFL. Jones will step in as a premier pass rusher in the 2021 class. His mix of size, explosion, and pass rush moves will put him ahead of many guys in this class. I see him as a great day-two pick with the ability to go even higher with a strong senior season and high positional value.
Grade: Top 45 pick
Comparison: Whitney Mercilus
