2021 NFL Draft prospect Tony Fields II will play his final year at WVU

Former Arizona linebacker and 2021 NFL Draft prospect Tony Fields II immediately became one of the most sought after players after announcing his decision to enter the transfer portal as a grad transfer last month. Fields is a talented linebacker with NFL potential. On August 10th, Fields announced his decision to transfer to West Virginia University.

Fields enjoyed an outstanding three seasons at Arizona. He was named a Freshman All-American in 2017 after racking up 104 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, and one interception on the year. He finished his Wildcat career with 287 career tackles, 17.0 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, and two interceptions.

How Fields II fits with the Mountaineers

Fields will step into a favorable position at West Virginia this fall. For one, the Big 12 Conference is one of the few conferences in college football that seem likely to play this fall amid the Coronavirus pandemic. Beyond that, however, Fields will immediately be the best linebacker for the Mountaineers and a key leader for the defense. He will have a stout defensive line in front of him with the Stills brothers (Darius and Dante) eating up blocks and allowing him to roam free and play sideline to sideline.

Fields is a bit undersized for the NFL at 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds, but he makes up for that with solid athleticism and movement skills. He excels as a blitzer up the middle and is solid in coverage as well. Fields talent, speed, and athleticism also project very well as a key special teams player at the next level.

Tony Fields II is already on Jim Nagy and the Senior Bowl’s radar after his impressive career at Arizona. A good season at West Virginia will only help the cause and improve Fields’ NFL chances for the 2021 NFL Draft.
