USC big man Jay Tufele is headed to the 2021 NFL Draft

With multiple conferences deciding to cancel or “postpone” their 2020 college football seasons, many players have decided to declare for the draft. While the draft is almost a year away, there have already been a good number of declarations. There have even been players from conferences that are playing football who have declared for the 2021 NFL Draft. USC interior defensive tackle Jay Tufele has joined the ever-growing list.

He made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter. Many players from the PAC-12 conference have held off on declaring for the draft while mulling transferring to get more film for NFL teams to look over. If the conference actually decides to play football in the Spring, it is unlikely that players with serious NFL draft hopes will likely declare and opt out.

It has been predicted by many draft pundits that Tufele could have certainly used another season of college football. Obviously he does not want to risk injury or contracting COVID-19 and jeopardize his future. Tufele is a good athlete for a man of his size and plays with good power.

As of right now, Tufele projects a second round pick. He has a lot of promise if he gets with the right coaching staff and is able to develop. He has the potential to be a good pass rusher from the interior defensive line position. Once he gets more polish and refinement to his game, he can be a starting NFL defensive tackle.
