Next stop for Wake Forest wide receiver Sage Surratt: the 2021 NFL Draft

The complications of COVID-19 on the college football season are forcing players to ponder their options. Sage Surratt decided that declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft is the best one. The Wake Forest Demon Deacon announced the decision via Twitter today.

While some may find it to be a surprising decision given the ACC’s planned continuance of their season this fall, Surratt boasts major talent and is considered by many a potential day one or two selection. With the pandemic still causing concern about health and safety, it’s a logical decision to maintain his health the best he can and prepare for the next level.

The Book on the newest 2021 NFL Draft addition: Sage Surratt

Listed at 6-3 and 215 pounds, Sage Surratt was entering the 2020 football season as a redshirt junior with the chance to prove himself the top receiver in the coming draft. However, he’s already put together a solid resume that began with 150 receiving yards in his debut, the most ever for a freshman receiver in a single game at Wake Forest. After last season concluded, he notched first-team All-ACC after racking up 1001 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. In addition, Surratt demonstrates work ethic in the classroom, earning back-to-back All-ACC Academic honors.

While he’s played a mere 19 games, Sage Surratt ended his career with a quality 14.8 yards per reception average and logged 15 receiving touchdowns to go along with over 100 catches. Considering his size and variance on his releases, Surratt is an ideal outside option for NFL offenses that could cycle inside to the slot.

He’s an aggressive, tone-setter of a receiver, churning out tough yards and fighting for the ball at the catch point. Most impressive, though, is his ability to win at all three levels of the field. He’s widely regarded, and considered a top ten receiver for the 2021 draft class. Sage Surratt is headed into eight months of training to prepare for the NFL Draft ceremonies in April.
