The Dolphins will look to replace Raekwon McMillan in the 2021 NFL Draft

On Saturday morning, the Miami Dolphins decided to move on from starting inside linebacker Raekwon McMillan. Miami sent the former Ohio State Buckeye to the Las Vegas Raiders for a 2021 fourth round pick. The Dolphins also sent over a 2021 fifth round pick in the deal. It had been speculated that McMillan had fallen down the depth chart in training camp.

The Raiders, who were hell-bent on upgrading their linebacker room in 2020, add even more talent to the room with McMillan. In free agency, Las Vegas brought over Cory Littleton and Nick Kwiatkoski on big money deals to fix their linebacker woes. In the third round of the 2020 NFL draft, the Raiders drafted Tanner Muse, a hybrid safety-linebacker out of Clemson.

It has been speculated since training camp started that Miami does not view McMillan as favorably as many thought. The Dolphins added Elandon Roberts and Kamu Grugier-Hill in the off-season. Those moves were thought to be depth additions. As of right now, it appears that they will be in direct competition to start next Jerome Baker in Miami’s odd front base.

The Dolphins will likely be looking to replace McMillan via the 2021 NFL draft. McMillan’s two down run-stuffing ability would eventually need to be replaced. He was great at filling gaps and making plays in the backfield. He became a liability when it was time to play in coverage.
