Jamie Newman in control of Georgia football QB job with 2021 NFL Draft next

The Georgia Football program landed two high-profile transfer quarterbacks this offseason, sparking the debate and potential quarterback competition. However, with the 2021 NFL Draft on the horizon for former Wake Forest quarterback Jamie Newman, he looks firmly in control of the starting job in Athens, Georgia.

For the most part, Newman is in the driver’s seat for the starting job with the Bulldogs because the other big name transfer JT Daniels has yet to hit the field with the season soon to begin. According to Anthony Vasher from UGASports, Daniels has yet to be cleared for contact and has yet to face live competition.

With the season opener less than a month away for the Bulldogs, time is running out for Daniels to hit the field in live action in order to prepare for a starting role. Newman, a Reese’s Senior Bowl Top 250 watchlist addition, looks poised to take control of the offense and awaken it in a way Athens has not seen while Jake Fromm was under center.

What Jamie Newman brings to the Georgia Football program

A dual-threat quarterback with plus mobility as well, Newman looks to transform the offense as he teams up with Air Raid guru Todd Monken, now taking over the offensive coordinator role with the Bulldogs. With immense arm talent, Newman will look for more consistency than he was able to find with the Demon Deacons over the first four years (including his redshirt season) of his collegiate career.

At 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, Newman has the prototypical size of an NFL quarterback, and the arm strength to match it. A year ago with Wake Forest, Newman threw for nearly 2,900 yards and 26 touchdowns in their read-option heavy offense a year ago. Now with significantly more talent at his disposal, Newman looks to take a Joe Burrow-like leap after his transfer to Georgia.
