The Jaguars are in full Tank for Trevor Lawrence mode
The Jacksonville Jaguars have been the leaders to land phenom Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence from the beginning of the offseason. However, after this weekend the Jaguars are in full Tank for Trevor mode with no turning back as they have added even more cap space and trade assets.
Just this weekend, the Jaguars finally settled on a deal for their disgruntled pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue, trading him to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a second rounder and a fifth rounder in the 2021 NFL Draft. This is on the heels of trading defensive stars Calais Campbell and A.J. Bouye before the draft, Jalen Ramsey a year ago, and Dante Fowler the year before that.
Then today, the news hit that Jacksonville has decided to release former fourth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft in Leonard Fournette after three underwhelming seasons and more than one incident with their front office. Just two years removed from the AFC Championship game, the Jaguars are stripped from every bit of talent from that roster.
Looking at Jaguars draft picks in 2021 NFL Draft
After the trade of Ngakoue, the Jaguars now add another second round pick to their arsenal, giving them four picks in the top-50 of the 2021 NFL Draft. With the trade of Ramsey to the Rams a season ago, the Jaguars have two first round picks as well; projected to pick first overall based off of Las Vegas betting odds, Jacksonville is the firm leader to land Lawrence, but have the ammunition to trade up to that pick if they need to.
With ten picks in the draft, likely a new head coach in 2021, and a fresh start from a roster perspective, Jacksonville is in full tank mode with a new, fresh start on the horizon. Look out world, Lawrence looks likely to be a Jaguar next year as the likely first overall pick in the draft.
