2021 NFL Draft: 3 ideal fits for QB Jamie Newman at the next level
By Cory Kinnan
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are all in over the next two seasons after landing future first ballot Hall of Famer Tom Brady in free agency this offseason. One problem: Brady is 43 years old and may have only two, maybe three seasons left in his career. Similar to Aaron Rodgers’ career early on in Green Bay, the Buccaneers could sit Newman down behind Brady and allow him to truly soak it in before seeing action.
Newman’s arm would be a perfect fit for the Buccaneers and Bruce Arians’ vertical passing attack, and with the plethora of weapons the Bucs have, the pressure would fall off of Newman’s shoulders as he adjusts to the speed of the NFL game. Even if tight end Rob Gronkowski is gone by the time Newman would hypothetically take over, the Buccaneers still have the likes of wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, and tight end O.J. Howard could keep him plenty of company.
Under Arians and offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, Newman’s full potential could be unlocked in Tampa Bay with the Buccaneers. Time to sit, plenty of weapons, and great coaching mentors is a great trifecta for Newman as he ventures to the next level in the 2021 NFL Draft.
