First rounder Damon Arnette suffers a setback with the Raiders

Many were shocked when the Las Vegas Raiders used their first round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on Ohio State cornerback Damon Arnette. With a strong case for DBU, the Buckeyes have produced a tremendous amount of defensive backs in the first round of the NFL Draft, including two this past April.

However, on the heels of the start of the regular season, the Raiders and Arnette have been hit with a bit of a setback as their first rounder suffered a broken thumb in training camp. There is a silver lining here, however, for both the Raiders and for Arnette.

Damon Arnette has played in cast before

A year ago, Arnette played most of the season in a cast anyway after fracturing his wrist with the Buckeyes. Not only did Arnette play well, but he played himself all the way from a day-three pick to a first rounder in 2019 in his final season of eligibility.

At this point, Arnette should just embrace the club and make it his claim to fame, similar to what Rip Hamilton did with his mask with the Detroit Pistons. While joking, Arnette cannot seem to catch a break with his arm as he looks to start his NFL career on the right foot.

It is unclear what Arnette’s timeframe is on a return with nine days until the first game of the season for the Raiders. However, if he once played through a fractured wrist, a broken thumb would appear to be light work for the 2020 NFL Draft first round pick.
