Sam Hartman, QB, Wake Forest

Jamie Newman is out as the starter at Wake Forest after graduate transferring to the University of Georgia, and then opting out before ever taking a snap for the Bulldogs. Now, Redshirt Sophomore quarterback Sam Hartman is finally set to take the fulltime reins of the Demon Deacons’ offense after spot starting in the past before suffering a season-ending injury in 2019.

Even though he is a familiar face, featured on the TV series ‘QB1’, Hartman has yet to see extended time on the field at Wake Forest as he enters his third season on campus. Now with Newman off to the 2021 NFL Draft, this is now Hartman’s team as he looks to prove that he is not only fully healthy, but ready to prove he can be the high-profile quarterback he was pegged to be two years ago.

Thus far throughout his collegiate career, Hartman has totaled over 2,800 yards passing for 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 13 total games with the Demon Deacons. He has a career completion percentage of just over 55 percent, so as he takes over as the starter, he will look to boost that number and lead the Wake Forest offense to new heights in 2020.

Will he step up to the challenge as the leader of the program at Wake Forest? Clemson is a tough test to start his 2020 season, but Hartman could make some noise this year as he is technically draft eligible.
