Sage Surratt, Wake Forest

Moving into day-two targets, another big bodied wide receiver with the ability to win down the field and at the catch point is Wake Forest’s Sage Surratt. He too has already opted out of the season and declared for the 2021 NFL Draft amid the ongoing health crisis, and his decision was a bit more curious after he chose to return to school earlier in the Spring.

Surratt is coming off of a shoulder injury that cost him the last few games of his 2019 season with the Demon Deacons. In just nine games, however, Surratt still managed to post a stat-line of 1,001 yards and 11 touchdowns on 66 catches from former quarterback Jamie Newman. Surratt has some work to do to prove he can win underneath the same way Robinson has proven to do in addition to vertically, but there is little doubt about Surratt’s ball skills.

Excelling along the boundary and down the field, Robinson displays uncanny hand-eye coordination to bring in tough, contested catches while managing to keep his feet in bounds. He has a large frame, listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, and he uses it to his advantage down the field and at the catch point.

Again, Surratt has to show he can separate consistently instead of forcing himself to make as many tight window catches as he does, and the ability to be a sharp route runner underneath. However with a second or third round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the cost is well worth the talent as the Bears look to potentially replace Robinson.
