Rookie Film Review: Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb

Turning on tape of CeeDee Lamb
Here we’ll be taking a look at some of Lamb’s more impressive plays from this last weekend against the Falcons.
The first thing you’ll notice is that Lamb is lined up in the slot, which is his primary position in the Cowboys offense. Lining up in the slot has a bit to do with him finding success so early. As you can see from the clip is that he doesn’t have to deal with press coverage. When you’re in the slot you are afforded more space to work off the line, allowing Lamb to get into his route uninterrupted.
On this individual play, Lamb is assigned a deep-out, he does a nice job of working inside right out of the gate, forcing the corner to respect his stem and it results in the corner flipping his hips. Lamb continues to work upfield until he gets on the defensive backs toes and then makes his break. He has a pick route coming, so he doesn’t have to get too creative at the top of his route, but he does settle his hips and gives himself the two-way-go. He fights through the contact to creat separation and secures the catch.
On this play, there is no route to evaluate because it’s a jet sweep to Lamb. There aren’t a ton of takeaways from this play, but it does show that Dallas understands his strengths. He is at his best with the ball in his hands so giving it to him on a hand-off where he’ll have a ton of room to run on the sideline is a smart play. Lamb does a good job reading his blocks on the outside and takes the ball past the sticks for a first down.
Easily one of his more impressive plays from this Sunday was this one that came on Dallas’ last drive that would eventually result in a game-winning field goal. Again, Lamb is tasked with a deep out route, but he doesn’t have the luxury of a pick route this time so he will need to create that space on his own, and boy does he create some SPACE.
Instead of starting his route to the inside this time, he works to the sideline out of his stance and he quickly gets the defensive back to commit outside. Once he flips his hips, Lamb begins to attack the defenders inside shoulder in order to get him to turn his hips yet again, and once he does Lamb snaps his route to the sideline and sits the defensive back down in a chair. Extremely savvy route and a nice job of using his hands to help create that separation by Lamb in a crucial moment in the game.
