There may be no bigger name in this game than Chuba Hubbard. He burst onto the scene last season by rushing for over 2,000 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2019 to finish eighth in the Heisman Trophy voting. He, somewhat surprisingly, chose to forgo the 2020 NFL Draft as a redshirt Sophomore and return to Oklahoma State for his Junior season.
Hubbard is a super explosive player who has incredible straight-line speed. That alone makes him a threat to take it to the house anytime he touches the ball. He runs with solid vision and patience behind the line of scrimmage, but only needs a couple of steps to get up to full speed and explode for a big play. While he is no doubt explosive, Hubbard needs to show better lateral agility and power to run through arm tackles.
Hubbard didn’t have the type of game he’s accustomed to against Tulsa. He only averaged 3.4 yards per carrying and failed to crack 100 yards rushing. He will look to bounce back to his normally explosive self against West Virginia. If he fails to do so, expect some questions to start to surface in regards to his fit and potential in the NFL.
