Joey Blount
One of the biggest sleepers in the entire 2021 NFL Draft class is versatile safety Joey Blount. He has the ability to stack the box, play over the top, and even in the nickel if used sparingly. He had an incredibly productive season in 2019, racking up 60 solo tackles, six tackles behind the line of scrimmage, three and a half sacks, three interceptions, and three passes defended.
Last week against Duke, Blount picked up right where he left off, tallying an interception, a forced fumble, four solo tackles, and one tackle for loss. Players who can stack a stat sheet on back-to-back seasons will not get overlooked for much longer. He graded out as a day-two pick by this writer as he enters his Senior season with the Cavaliers.
A safety who can provide consistency to a defense are of the utmost importance, especially in an NFL that is looking to defend the pass without compromising their run support. Blount fits the bill.
