2021 NFL Draft: Raiders among fits for North Dakota State QB Trey Lance
By Cory Kinnan
1. Washington Football Team
Follow the timeline here: On October 6, 2020, Lance announced he was leaving North Dakota State and would be entering the draft. Just the next day, The Washington Football Team announced the benching for 2019 first rounder and quarterback Dwayne Haskins after just 11 starts under his belt.
After just a quarter of the 2020 season, Washington head coach Ron Rivera has seen enough of Haskins, and will seemingly look to bring in his own guy. For now, they will start backup quarterback Kyle Allen as they continue to look for a new quarterback for the future. Why is Allen starting? His familiarity with the system operating in Washington.
Do you know who else has been familiar with that system? Former first overall pick and Most Valuable Player Cam Newton, a player Rivera coached for years in with the Panthers. It just so happens that Newton and Lance have a bit of similarity to their game, making him a nice fit with the Football Team heading towards the 2021 NFL Draft.
It appears Haskins is not the quarterback of the future, as Washington looks to be back in the quarterback pool just two years after taking him. Should they continue to struggle, Washington and Rivera could find themselves in position to land Lance.
