One of the most explosive receivers in the 2021 NFL Draft gets bad news
The SMU Mustangs have come out the gates hot, winning their first four games of the season, with their biggest win coming this last Saturday against conference opponent, the Memphis Tigers. The Tigers were able to get the better of the Mustangs last year, but SMU was too explosive for Memphis.
A majority of the big plays that’s the Mustangs are able to create come when quarterback Shane Buechele is able to find receiver Reggie Roberson. Whether it’s deep down the sideline or behind the line-or-scrimmage on a screen pass, it seems the two are always one throw away from six points.
However, during SMU’s game against Memphis, Roberson went down with a knee injury. Reports have shown that he will have to get surgery that will likely end his season where he has already accumulated 474 receiving yards and five touchdowns — averaging 21.5 yards per reception.
What injury means for Reggie Roberson’s 2021 NFL Draft stock
The 2021 wide receiver class is loaded with talent from top to bottom which has caused Roberson to not get the recognition he deserves. He is a legit vertical threat who not only has the ability to win with his speed, but his route running as well.
Roberson is more than just a speedy vertical threat, he has the route running prowess to make a presence on all three levels, as well as possessing the requisite run-after-catch ability, which he displayed in the Memphis game. This injury may end up hurting his stock depending on the severity, but the talent he possesses is worth a look on Day-Two if his medicals clear.
