2021 NFL Draft: Ranking battle for QB4 as Zach Wilson, Mac Jones join fight
By Cory Kinnan
2. Zach Wilson, BYU
One of the hottest names to start the 2020 season is BYU quarterback Zach Wilson as he has led the Cougars to a 4-0 start to the season. On the season, Wilson has already racked up 1,241 yards passing, eight touchdowns, and one interception; he is completing a whopping 81 percent of his passes thus far for BYU as they continue to churn through the season.
Additionally, Wilson has added only 60 yards on the ground, but has ran into the end zone a massive six times already. At 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, Wilson has more than enough size to thrive in the NFL and has put his arm talent on display thus far for the Cougars, now in his third season as the starting quarterback in Provo.
Drae Harris of The Draft Network took the time to write up BYU’s rising phenom in his scouting report:
"“Zach is a good athlete with good movement skills. He is slippery in the pocket and demonstrates good ability to subtly slide to the left or right to evade the rush. He shows the ability to extend plays with his feet and buy himself some extra time. If plays break down he can move the chains with his legs. He demonstrates good competitiveness to lead comebacks as he did in the Tennessee game. He demonstrates instances of having a quick release. He shows some poise and some moxie for a kid his age and should only improve as he matures.”"
He is athletic, has more than enough mobility, can throw from multiple arm slots, and has shown a great deal of accuracy thus far through 2019 as well. Can he keep rising, now in the race for not only QB4, but for the Heisman Trophy as well? Only time will tell, however, at this point in the season, Wilson is making a convincing argument to hear his name called in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
