Round 2: Liam Eichenberg, OT (Notre Dame)

If you’re a Cardinals fan, you probably wished that every single selection in the 2020 NFL Draft was spent on an offensive lineman. Kyler Murray was tied for the most sacks in the NFL in 2019 with 48. While some of those were his own rookie mistakes, a lot of them were due to their horrendous offensive line play. Poor little guy was running for his life almost every play! If you’re going to spend the first overall pick on a franchise quarterback, you absolutely MUST protect him. Unless you’re the Cincinnati Bengals, apparently.

The Cardinals did end up addressing the offensive line in this year’s draft, but it wasn’t until pick #72 when they selected offensive tackle Josh Jones from the University of Houston. While Jones was a steal of a pick, he has yet to really see the field. This is mainly due to the signing of veteran Kelvin Beachum and the improvement of left tackle DJ Humphries.

While the sacks are down so far for Kyler Murray in 2020, the offensive line can still use some upgrades.

Insert Liam Eichenberg, the offensive tackle from Notre Dame.

Liam Eichenberg looks to be yet another dominate offensive lineman from The University of Notre Dame and could easily work his way into the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. If the Cardinals can come away with two offensive tackle steals in back-to-back drafts, that should help their young franchise quarterback for years to come.
