5. S Trevon Moehrig

Ronnie Harrison has been a top-10 safety this season, which is pretty great value for the fifth-rounder the Browns gave up to get him. He looks to be a long-term fit in Joe Woods’ defense, along with Grant Delpit, who will miss his entire rookie year due to a torn achilles. If Delpit can recover from that injury, he has All-Pro potential in the NFL.

Even still, the Browns will need a third starting safety, and that player is likely not on the roster right now (it is certainly not Andrew Sendejo). Woods wants safeties who can cover like cornerbacks, so there’s no better way to meet that requirement than to draft a safety who also plays cornerback.

Moehrig is 6-2 200 pounds, a very good athlete, and incredibly versatile. He was one of the best defensive backs in college football last season (which is not a simple feat in the Big 12), and can play deep safety, in the box, or in the slot. Having a third Swiss Army Knife along with Harrison an Delpit would give Woods the freedom to play his big nickel defense the way he intended.

Zack Thomas at The Dynasty Draft Room has thoughts on Moerig:

"“Moehrig excels at playing the deep safety role for TCU. He has the speed and range to cover a lot of ground. He has the instincts to fire out of his backpedal and make a play on the ball when it arrives. He’s an excellent safety valve for his corners. He has loose hips and quick feet with very solid agility skills. He does a good job diagnosing plays and playing fast to the ball. He understands route concepts and can diagnose how an offense is trying to attack. He has extremely good ball skills and very natural hands. He’s a reliable tackler with a decent radius. He has the strength and wherewithal to make a nice arm tackle while a blocker has him in his grasp.”"

The Cleveland Browns are armed with nine picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, and given how the roster is shaped right now, it’s highly unlikely they’ll use all of those. The Browns a certainly a team to watch during the draft process, and these five prospects make a lot of sense when they do actually pick a player.
