65: New York Jets: Quincy Roche, Edge, Miami

New York Currently ranks 26th in the league with only 18 sacks on the season. The consistent pass rush is a must in the NFL. Not only does it affect the opposing offense on passing downs, but it also helps the secondary. The two go hand in hand. Defensive backs can only cover so long. If the front seven can’t get continuous pressure on the quarterback, it makes for a long day for everyone.

Which is one of the main reasons the Jets are so bad defending the pass. Roche brings good hand usage and length to the next level. He’s versatile enough to play in a 4-3 or 3-4 defense. Currently listed at 245 pounds, he’s added weight and teams will love that. He’s a redshirt senior with a ton of experience.

Joe Marino of The Draft Network is a big fan of the game of Roche:

"“Explosive and fluid out of his stance. Knows how to use his footwork to draw offensive tackles out of their set and grease rush angles. Has terrific vision to read the set of the offensive tackle and knows how to attack the pocket. Does an exceptional job playing with extension and keeping his pads clear. Hand work is sudden and violent. Length wonderfully complements his ability to convert speed to power and challenge the width of the pocket. Has a lethal inside club swim move. Fluid and fully capable of cornering the outside hip of offensive tackles” (Marino via The Draft Network)."

His hard work is often talked about and his character is a trait that will pay dividends in the NFL locker rooms. Roche has the chance to come in and compete on day one for a starting role on this defense. At worst he will be a rotational pass rusher who will add much-needed depth on the edge. Quinnen Williams is the team leader in sacks with five.

Adding a player of Roche’s caliber should increase the sack production for this defense.
