There is a battle within this 2021 NFL Draft class of quarterbacks brewing

This offseason, there were only three quarterbacks who rose to the top of the class, however as this season has progressed, the 2021 NFL Draft class has a fourth. As the season has gone along, BYU’s Zach Wilson, who has the chance to pad his resume even further this weekend, has inserted himself into the conversation. As he continues to rise, there is a new battle brewing:

Can he overtake North Dakota State’s Trey Lance as the third quarterback in this class? Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State’s Justin Fields remain atop the ranks, but Wilson is making a claim for that third spot in the ranks. In this article, we will take a look at the battle between Wilson and Lance as the season has progressed.

Where they currently stand

Coming off of a dominant redshirt freshman season in 2019, Lance become a victim to the circumstances as the FCS has pushed back their season to the Spring. This put not only Lance, but a handful of other talented FCS players in the position to declare for the draft before the season. While Lance dragged his feet on the decision, he eventually decided to enter his name into the 2021 NFL Draft after his showcase game against Central Arkansas.

North Dakota State was able to land Central Arkansas on their schedule as programs all over the nation were beginning to ramp up towards their Fall schedule. This at least gave NFL teams one opportunity to see Lance in action before the main event.

Wilson, on the other hand, has had a large amount of games in the 2020 season to boost his stock. He has done just that as he finds himself in the midst of a Heisman Trophy-worthy campaign.

Given the circumstances, where do these two currently stand in the race for QB3?
