Azeez Ojulari has burst onto the scene in his redshirt sophomore season
Coming into the season, the edge rushing group was one that was highly contested. It was headlined by the likes of Miami’s Gregory Rousseau, Pitt’s Patrick Jones II, and Penn State’s Jayson Oweh. Now, however, there may be a new sheriff in town as Georgia’s explosive pass rusher Azeez Ojulari has burst onto the scene.
Just a redshirt sophomore, and just 19 years old, Ojulari is instilling fear in SEC offensive linemen with his play on the field, and as a result, his 2021 NFL Draft stock is on the rise. Here we will take a deep look at Ojulari, where he wins, has room to improve, and what his draft outlook is as we are nearing closer to the draft in April.
Looking at the box score
A year ago as a redshirt freshman, Ojulari racked up five and a half sacks and five tackles for loss in a rotational role for the Bulldogs. Now a focal point of the Georgia defense, and with a much more aesthetic number, Ojulari has taken a massive leap on the field in Athens.
Through eight games this season, Ojulari has already topped his numbers from a year ago, racking up six and a half sacks, eight and a half tackles for loss, two passes defended, and two forced fumbles for the Bulldogs.
Ojulari is making his case to be the top pass rusher in the class, and most impressively, he will be just 20 years old by the time he is drafted should he declare. What makes Ojulari so special, and where can he continue to improve? We take a look here next.
