Nevada QB Carson Strong the ultimate wildcard of 2021 NFL Draft
By Cory Kinnan
Where he shows room for growth
While Strong has one of the strongest arms (no pun intended) in this class, his mobility is not anything to write home about. Strong has the ability to navigate the pocket and slide out if needed, but he is not known for extending plays with his legs or making plays outside of structure given his limitations on the run.
Strong, as previously discussed, has the ability to work the short and long game with at a high level, but an uptick in accuracy on throws around the boundary and at the intermediate range will help to serve Strong well as he prepares to take his game to the next level (whether that is this year or next). In his defense he is firing into tight windows along the sideline, but Strong has a tendency to overshoot, missing high, failing to give his receiver a chance to make a play.
As just a redshirt sophomore in his second full season as the starting quarterback with the Wolfpack, experience and lack of competition at a non-Power 5 conference may be seen as a red flag by some NFL teams as well. However he has had more starting experience than the likes of Lance and Wilson in this class, and will have more starts under his belt than Justin Fields.
As Strong continues to pad his portfolio, where does his 2021 NFL Draft outlook currently look like? We take a look there next a we wrap up this scouting report on Strong.
