The Cincinnati Bengals find themselves in position for a massive prize

There were a lot of important and intriguing games that occurred on Sunday, December 13th, but one of the most overlooked games nationally was the Cincinnati Bengals versus the Dallas Cowboys game. It could have potentially been the Penei Sewell bowl.

This game had some serious implications as the loser would secure the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, while the loser could fall all the way to sixth overall. Hence why the game was often referred to as the Penei Sewell Bowl, as both teams hold major offensive line needs.

Entering the game the Bengals were 2-9-1 and were picking third overall, and it is no secret that offensive tackle is a massive team need. Without former first overall pick Joe Burrow behind center, the team looks promised to lock up that selection as Brandon Allen was the entrenched starter. It got worse though, as Allen went down in the fourth quarter with a leg injury and third string quarterback Ryan Finley stepped in.

The Cowboys entered the game 3-9, holding the fourth overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. With winning the division still on the board the Cowboys have shown some good fight throughout the past few games. And with this being Andy Dalton’s return to Cincinnati and he was on a mission. He wasn’t the only one though as the Cowboys dominated this game, winning 30 – 7.

With the teams now two games apart the stakes were high, as both teams have big needs along the offensive line. The win brought the Cowboys one spot closer to the division lead but the real winner might just be the other team. With this loss the Bengals look to continue securing the third overall pick, and are one step closer to selecting Penei Sewell.
