Tutu Atwell: Where does the smallish WR fit in the 2021 NFL Draft?
By Scott Gorman
Areas that need to improve
The biggest issue with Atwell is his slight build and lack of playing strength. He appears maxed out in his frame with little room to add bulk and gets easily knocked off his routes. Atwell does not have strong hands and has struggled with drops, limiting his possibilities as a professional prospect. He is a slot player and potential return specialist with almost zero ability as an outside receiver.
Jack Borowsky of The Dynasty Draft Room gives his thoughts on where Atwell has room to improve:
"“Though he runs fast routes, his route tree is not extensive. Louisville has him run with the same few routes repeatedly, which won’t be able to work against NFL slot cornerbacks. Due to his lack of size, it is also harder for him to make contested catches. Defenders can knock him around at the catch point, preventing him from corralling the football. He can’t be used in a traditional role, and teams will need to manufacture Tutu touches.”"
The diminutive receiver also adds nothing as a blocker, which will limit his ability to stay on the field as an every-down player. Atwell often gets washed out by bigger corners and safeties in the running game and gets pushed around on his routes. He will need to get tougher and show the ability to fight through traffic to succeed at the next level and get taken early in the 2021 NFL Draft.
