Kadarius Toney, Trevon Grimes are off to the NFL

With just a few days until their New Year’s Six bowl game against the Oklahoma Sooners, Florida Gator wide receivers, Kadarius Toney and Trevon Grimes, have opted out and declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Florida Gators had the best offense in the country, statistically, and Trevon Grimes and Kadarius Toney were a very big reason why.

Looking at Trevon Grimes

Trevon Grimes finished the season with 38 receptions for 589 yards and nine touchdowns. Those numbers don’t jump off the page, but what does is his average yards per catch. Grimes averaged 15.5 yards per catch which matches up perfectly with his play style.

He is a big bodied receiver who thrives in jump ball situations where he can out-muscle defensive backs and come down with those deep balls. He really showed his strengths when he beat a first round cornerback, Patrick Surtain II, at the catch point and took the ball to the house.

The decision for Grimes to declare is an understandable one, but there could have been some more money made from this bowl game. If Grimes remains opted in, and Toney stays opted out, Grimes is instantly Kyle Trasks number one option for the Cotton Bowl. A big game in the Cotton bowl could have really boosted the draft stock for Grimes.

Looking at Kadarius Toney

On the other hand, Kadarius Toney doesn’t need to prov

e much more. After torching the Alabama defense in the SEC Championship, Toney has seen his draft stock skyrocket. On the season, Toney recorded 70 receptions for 984 yards and 10 touchdowns. Toney is possibly the most elusive player in the last few drafts that we have seen.

His stop-start ability and joystick like movements seem otherworldly. This game would’ve done wonders for Toney in the national spotlight, but the odds that it increases his draft stock are unlikely. Odds are that Toney would tear up this Oklahoma defense and have another wild performance.

With both receivers opted out, they most likely have their 2021 NFL Draft stock well estimated and have talked to their coaches to make the best decision for them. Currently, to guess, Toney most likely stands at late round one or early round two, and Grimes is most likely in the late day 2 range.
