The Wolverines are sending another LB talent to the 2021 NFL Draft
While talk about Jim Harbaugh’s contract extension started to make the airwaves today, another critical part of Michigan football announced that he is leaving Ann Arbor. Starting linebacker Cameron McGrone officially declared for the 2021 NFL Draft, making his announcement via Twitter:
The former #1 high school prospect in the state of Indiana per 247 Sports, McGrone was considered a five-star recruit by that outlet and the top outside linebacker in the country in 2018. Overall, he ranked 24th overall in the high school recruiting class that year. Signing with Michigan, McGrone saw his playing time jump tremendously as a true sophomore when he took over for then starting middle linebacker John Ross, who was lost to injury. He took over and never looked back.
In his time as a starter, McGrone racked up 92 total tackles to go along with 4.5 sacks. He flashes exceptional speed and athleticism for the position, and impressed mightily despite his brief time in the Big 10 as a starter. Unfortunately, this season was cut short due to an injury he suffered versus Rutgers.

McGrone will definitely have his fans during draft season, though. The Draft Network‘s Kyle Crabbs views McGrone as “a star in the making — he offers every physical tool you’ll look for in a middle linebacker prospect.” With his declaration, the young Michigan linebacker will have a chance to show that to scouts this spring.
