2021 NFL Draft: What should Dolphins do with Texans pick?
Penei Sewell, OT Oregon
The Dolphins made a concerted effort to improve the offensive line in the 2020 off-season. They added two new starters in free agency and three through the draft. On top of that, versatile swing lineman Jesse Davis helped fill in all season long through injuries and poor play from starters.
While all that may be true, it would just be so hard to pass on Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell. After being the best offensive lineman in the country in 2019, Sewell opted out of the 2020 season once presented with that option. Playing in 2020 would not have given him much, as the PAC-12 did not play many games anyway.
The big question with Sewell is where to play him. It really should not matter whether he plays left tackle or right tackle, but it has been a point of discussion among fans and media. With Tua Tagovailoa being a left handed quarterback, his blindside tackle becomes the right tackle. That may be what the Dolphins decide to do with Sewell, but at the end of the day, he’s a damn good football player who can play on either side.
While the offensive line took positive strides in the first year with three rookies, none of them appear to be blue chip level prospects. Sewell may be the best offensive tackle prospect that has come into the league in the past five years, maybe even longer. There may be other needs, but this is simply a player you cannot pass on. However, perhaps the right trade package could entice Miami to move.
